The City Is Mine

Earlier today, I saw a cop car with lights flashing, pulled over to a curb on Grand and Lower Michigan. The cop seemed to be talking to a homeless guy in a wheel chair.

The scene struck me as interesting because I wondered: Did the cop pull the guy in the wheel chair over? Was the guy in the wheel chair in some sort of distress? What was going on?

'Just another cold, gray day in Chicago,' I thought. As I ran up the stairs to Michigan Avenue I felt free. I'm homeless, jobless, and have no responsibilities. How many people can actually get away with such things?

On my way to meet Joey and his co-workers for lunch, I saw Dean Richards from Channel 9 News.

"Dean Richards!" I said.

"Hey!" he said in a cheesy, deep-voiced, radio personality kind of way.

"I love you! You're great!"

He looked at me and kept walking.

As I continued walking, I thought, "I should've asked Dean Richards to take me to lunch."

Damn! Missed opportunity.

I've had several kick-ass weekends that involve (among other things) great conversations, music, and strippers.
